It seems that no matter your age or circumstances (employee, student, retiree), the fall season is a fresh start, mentally, for us all. The sight of school buses on the road, Friday (Saturday, Sunday and Monday) football, along with the changing colors of the leaves, the crisp feeling in the air, and the sight and smell of everything pumpkin, warms the soul and reboots the brain.
Through our Jobs for Life and Victory Reading Program, we have lived out the Fall Reboot with a bang and a flair! This semester’s Jobs for Life class is energetic, invested and ready to make choices and take actions for a new and productive start of their lives. Our Instructors and Champions have rallied around the students and built some strong bonds. Even sweeter is the fact that our volunteers leave class each week feeling blessed by a nugget of new insight to the purpose and plan for their own lives. It never ceases to amaze me how God will call us into service just to reward us with a blessing of our own. We invite you to join us in prayer and praise for the Lord’s work being done in this area of STEP ministry.
Our Victory Reading Program has experienced both a new location and a 30% increase in enrollment! The new site, with all its’ bright colors and expanded space, has allowed this growth and the overall needs of the children to be better met. If you have a love for children and a few hours one afternoon or more a week, please consider joining us in this hands-on, fun filled ministry to the children of Gilpin Court. Our VRP Director, Brenda Bailey, organizes all the steps for the tutors each day. Volunteers do not need teaching experience to work in program. We invite you to join our reading family, become a tutor and change a life. Is there a better way to spend a few hours a week?
As you can see, this fall has proven to be a time where things are truly falling into place at STEP, but dare I ask, could your presence be the one missing piece of the puzzle that lets us more fully fulfill His plan and grow His Kingdom? If you are interested in learning more, or volunteering with either program, please contact me at (804)-647-5348.
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” (1 Peter 4:10)
